Sycamore Shoals State Historic Area, Colonial heritage site in Carter County, United States.
The 70-acre park contains Fort Watauga, a reconstructed frontier fort along the Watauga River in eastern Tennessee.
In 1775, Richard Henderson and Daniel Boone negotiated the Treaty of Sycamore Shoals, resulting in the sale of Cherokee territories.
Fort Watauga provides interpretive displays about Native American settlements and European colonization through exhibits and documentary screenings.
Visitors can explore a 2-mile Mountain River Trail with interpretive signs, observe historical reenactments, and access educational programs throughout the year.
The park features a Moon tree, grown from seeds that traveled to space during the Apollo 14 mission and planted in 1976.
