Taos Pueblo, Native American museum in Taos County, United States.
Description
Taos Pueblo is an inhabited village of multi-story adobe structures built with sun-dried clay bricks and wooden beams using traditional indigenous construction methods. The buildings show how people have lived and adapted these techniques over centuries.
History
This pueblo was built around 1000 CE and ranks among the longest continuously inhabited settlements in North America. It has survived despite major changes in the region over the past millennium.
Culture
The Tiwa community continues to live here with their traditional crafts, ceremonies, and language woven into everyday life. You can see this living culture firsthand as you walk through the plazas and watch local artisans work.
Practical
Wear comfortable shoes since exploring requires walking and some areas have uneven terrain. The cooler months offer the most pleasant visiting conditions throughout the year.
Did you know?
Photography is allowed in some areas but restricted in others out of respect for the community's sacred and private spaces. These rules reflect how the pueblo balances visiting access with protecting what matters most to its residents.
