Trail to the Agiofarago Beach, Beach trail in southern Crete, Greece

Trail to the Agiofarago Beach is a path through a natural canyon with steep rock walls, leading to a shore with sand and pebbles. The water is clear and towering rock formations frame the entire setting.

The canyon was an important center for ascetics in early Christian times, with monks living in caves along the limestone walls. This religious settlement developed and continued through the medieval period.

Saint Anthony's Church sits along the route as a quiet place where visitors can pause and reflect. The site carries a spiritual quality that draws both pilgrims and hikers who pass through.

Access is gained by a walk of about 20 minutes from the parking area through the canyon, with water available from a well near the church. Bring your own water and wear sturdy shoes, as the path crosses loose rocks and boulders.

A natural stone arch formation in the water lets swimmers pass underneath and explore the cove from a different angle. This geological feature is one of the bay's most distinctive characteristics.
