Lower Aguada Fort extension

Lower Aguada Fort extension is a defensive tower with a television broadcasting facility located at the edge of the Arabian Sea. The structure blends original military stonework with contemporary broadcast equipment, showing how the site has been adapted for different purposes across time.

Portuguese builders constructed this section of the fort in 1612 as part of their coastal defense network against Dutch naval raids. The fortification was originally essential to the region's defensive strategy but was repurposed over time for other functions.

Visitors can reach the fort by taking a local bus or taxi from Panaji to nearby Sinquerim Beach. The best time to visit is during the cooler months when weather conditions are most pleasant.

The broadcast tower sits on foundations that once held one of Asia's largest freshwater storage reservoirs beneath the structure. This underground construction was crucial to the fort's original design, allowing defenders to survive extended sieges.
