Kala Academy

Kala Academy is a cultural center in Panaji with several buildings housing performance spaces, art galleries, and educational facilities. The complex sits along the Mandovi River, integrating these functions into one continuous campus.

The institution was founded in 1970 as a government establishment to develop and maintain artistic traditions across different disciplines in Goa. It arose from the need to preserve and advance local art forms in the region.

The center preserves Goan artistic traditions through performances and exhibitions that happen throughout the year, keeping regional art forms alive and visible. Visitors encounter local music, dance, and theater styles that are actively practiced and shared here.

The central ticket office provides information about upcoming events and educational programs available to visitors. Planning ahead helps you find the performances or workshops that interest you most.

The building was designed by architect Charles Correa, who used angular structures and open spaces to promote natural ventilation throughout the complex. These design choices reflect regional architectural elements while creating distinctive spatial experiences.
