Amazonas Park Crete

Amazonas Park Crete is a zoo on the Greek island that focuses on birds and animals from tropical regions. The facility contains multiple outdoor areas designed to mimic natural habitats, where visitors can see parrots, monkeys, and other species.

The zoo opened in 2011 as a result of cooperation between a Swiss animal facility and local investors. This partnership made it possible to bring tropical bird species to Crete, where the climate suits their needs.

The park helps visitors learn about tropical birds and their needs through direct observation and interaction. People can watch how different species behave and understand what makes each type special in its own environment.

The zoo is located roughly 30 kilometers from popular tourist towns, requiring some travel time to reach it. Comfortable walking shoes are essential since most of the park is on foot and paths can be uneven in places.

The facility runs a breeding program specifically for parrot species that are in danger of disappearing from the wild. This program demonstrates how a private zoo can contribute to protecting animals and helping restore populations in their original homes.
