Church of Panagia Kera

Church of Panagia Kera is a Byzantine structure with three interior aisles whose walls, dome, and spaces are covered with religious frescoes. The painted scenes depict various biblical narratives and holy figures across the different sections of the building.

This church was built in the early 13th century and underwent major modifications over time. During the 14th century, side aisles and a western entrance were added, substantially expanding the original design.

Each of the three aisles is dedicated to different holy figures and displays distinct religious imagery that reflects the patron saints. You can observe how the physical layout creates separate devotional spaces within the single structure.

This building sits about one kilometer south of Kritsa village with parking available near a nearby restaurant. It is easy to locate by following the road from the village in that direction.

A painting of the Virgin Mary once kept here and believed to have miraculous powers went missing in the late 15th century. The work was stolen and carried away to distant lands, disappearing from view for centuries.
