Bioparco di Sicilia, Zoological garden in Carini, Italy.
Bioparco di Sicilia is a zoological garden spread across landscaped grounds in Carini, featuring more than 60 animal species including capybaras, macaques, lemurs, wallabies, zebras, and hippopotamuses. The facility includes tropical plant greenhouses, terrariums, and specially designed enclosures for different animal groups.
The park opened in 1999 as a zoological facility and gradually expanded its exhibition areas over the following decades. Tropical greenhouses, terrariums, and enhanced animal enclosures were added to grow the site.
Four specialized zookeepers maintain daily care routines for the animals, following specific protocols to ensure proper nutrition and environmental enrichment for each species.
The park is easy to navigate with clear pathways throughout, making it accessible for visitors of varying mobility levels. Wear comfortable shoes and bring water when visiting on warm days, as shaded areas are limited.
The grounds feature a Dinosaur Land section with full-scale reconstructed prehistoric creatures positioned among the botanical gardens and animal exhibits. These reconstructions create an unusual mix of modern zoology and prehistoric imagination within the same space.
