Gialova Waterfall, Natural waterfall in Messinia, Greece

Gialova Waterfall comprises two distinct tiers that cascade through limestone formations and create a natural pool at its base. Dense olive groves and Mediterranean vegetation surround the falls.

The waterfall sits within the Pylos-Nestoras municipality, an area historically significant for its proximity to ancient Pylos. Numerous archaeological discoveries in this region point to long-established human settlement.

The waterfall is called Kalamaris Falls by local residents, though the origin of this name remains unclear. The place attracts people looking for a quiet spot in nature away from busier routes.

The waterfall is reachable by a 15-minute drive from Pylos followed by a short 10-minute walk on forest trails. Designated parking areas are available to make access straightforward.

Despite drought conditions affecting Greece in 2024, this waterfall maintained steady water flow, which surprised many visitors. The abundant frog population around the pool adds to the living ecology of the place.
