Edificio Rossi

Edificio Rossi is an Art Nouveau residential building in Balvanera with six separate entrances, two commercial spaces on the ground floor, and elaborately decorated facades. Front apartments contain six rooms spanning approximately 125 square meters, while rear units offer three rooms within approximately 60 square meters.

Italian architect Virginio Colombo designed this structure in 1912 for the Rossi brothers, who operated a successful shoe business on the ground floor. The building emerged during a time when wealthy Italian immigrants shaped Buenos Aires.

The building displays Milanese Liberty style with Venetian influences visible in its colorful mosaics and enamel murals depicting Italian countryside views. This decoration reflects the heritage and taste of the original owners.

The building sits in an active neighborhood with good access to public transit and foot traffic. To view the stone figures and enamel details from outside, visit during daytime when natural light brings out the ornamental features.

Four pairs of red granite peacocks adorn the first-floor balconies and gave the building its popular name Casa de los Pavos Reales. These stone birds are a distinctive architectural feature that stands out among other buildings in Buenos Aires.
