The Port Stanvac complex spans 239 hectares along the coastline, featuring a 670-meter jetty extending into waters reaching depths of 15 meters.
Constructed in 1958 and operational by 1963, the Port Stanvac refinery processed 3.3 million tons of crude oil annually until its closure in 2003.
The facility's presence influenced local music, with The Dairy Brothers recording a dedicated song about Port Stanvac and its industrial legacy.
The Port Stanvac jetty remains accessible for fishing and diving activities, with a maintained 215-meter rock groyne providing additional coastal protection.
Following the refinery's closure, part of the site transformed into the Adelaide Desalination Plant, while four gas turbines were installed for power generation.
