Carrick Hill

Carrick Hill is a heritage house museum in Springfield containing extensive collections of drawings, sculptures, antiques, and paintings displayed across multiple exhibition spaces. The 40-hectare estate also includes historic stables and carefully maintained gardens that visitors can explore.

The manor was built in 1939 for Sir Edward and Lady Ursula Hayward, incorporating architectural elements inspired by Beaudesert House in Staffordshire, England. This design brought European building traditions to South Australia.

The house displays French, British, and Australian artworks spanning different periods. Visitors can see how these collections fill the rooms and reflect the owners' interest in modern and historical artistic traditions.

The estate sits about 8 kilometers northeast of Adelaide's city center and is straightforward to reach. Designated picnic areas near the house and the stables lawn offer comfortable spots to spend time outdoors.

The garden features a pleached pear arbour and formal hedge structures that frame views toward Gulf St Vincent. This gardening technique brings European orchard traditions to the South Australian landscape.
