The Grenfell Centre is a 26-storey, 103-metre office tower at 25 Grenfell Street in the Adelaide city centre, built in the International Style. Two frameless glass cubes stand at its entrance, added in the 2007 redevelopment. A 10-metre antenna was attached in 1980 and upgraded with digital transmitters in 2003.
The Grenfell Centre was completed in 1973 on the site of the 1897 Brookman Building, which was demolished in the early 1970s. At 103 metres, it was Adelaide's tallest building until 30 Pirie Street surpassed it in 1987. The foyer and interior were refurbished in the 1980s, and a 10-metre antenna added in 1980 was upgraded with digital transmitters in 2003.
The building reflects how Adelaide's business district transformed in the 1970s toward cleaner, more open designs. Its straight edges and glass surfaces shaped how the city's office spaces looked for decades.
The central location gives visitors and workers quick access to public transport and nearby shops and restaurants. Multiple elevators mean you can move between floors without long waits, even during busy times.
The 2023 re-cladding replaced aluminium composite panels with solid 3 mm aluminium and added insulation behind it. The original panels had been linked to the rapid spread of the fatal Grenfell Tower fire in London, so the swap addressed a safety concern rather than appearance alone.
