The Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art occupy two buildings spanning 25,000 square meters along the Brisbane River at South Bank.
The Gallery of Modern Art section opened in December 2006 as part of an expansion project by architecture firm Architectus, with construction costs reaching 107 million dollars.
The institution maintains a collection of 18,500 artworks focusing on Australian, Asian, and Pacific contemporary art, including paintings, sculptures, photographs, and textile pieces.
Both galleries operate daily from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM with free general admission, while specific exhibitions might require separate paid tickets.
The complex contains Australia's first purpose-built cinematheque, presenting curated moving-image works through the Australian Cinémathèque program.
