Park Eifel, Recreation area in Gunderath, Germany.
Park Eifel is a holiday village and recreation area in Gunderath, set within the Eifel uplands of Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. The grounds combine forests, walking paths, and natural zones that are left to develop on their own.
The area was designated in 2004 as a natural development zone and received the status of a protected wilderness. This was one of the earlier decisions in Germany to let a landscape develop entirely without human management.
The name Park Eifel points directly to the upland region where it sits, giving the place a clear local identity that visitors can connect with. Guided tours bring people face to face with animals that actually live here, such as black storks and wildcats.
Many of the paths are accessible for wheelchair users, and the site has facilities for visitors with hearing or visual impairments. For the natural trails, sturdy shoes are a good idea since conditions can vary depending on the weather.
More than half of the grounds operate under what is called complete natural freedom, meaning no trees are cleared and no vegetation is managed. This results in wild habitats where fallen wood stays on the ground and plants grow exactly as they would without any human presence.
