Blankenese, Historical fishing village on Elbe River, Hamburg, Germany
Located on steep hills overlooking the Elbe River, Blankenese features narrow staircases, winding paths, and traditional fishermen's cottages at various elevations.
First documented in 1301, Blankenese developed around a castle built in 1060 on Süllberg hill to protect river crossings on the Elbe.
The district maintains Easter beach fires and Rummelpott, a winter tradition where children in costumes visit houses requesting treats.
The S-Bahn station, established in 1867, serves as Hamburg's oldest terminal station and connects Blankenese with the city center.
At low tide, visitors can examine two historical shipwrecks near the beach: the Uwe from 1975 and the Polstjernan from 1926.
