The beach takes its name from the Maxwell family, who settled near the coast during the British colonial period in the 1800s. This naming reflects the early European presence that shaped the island's geography and history.

On weekends, local vendors set up food stalls selling traditional Bajan fish cakes, flying fish, and fresh coconut water to visitors. These offerings reflect the island's everyday food traditions and bring the community to the shoreline.

This beach offers public access during daylight hours, with parking available near Bougainvillea Resort and rental shops for equipment throughout the day. Early morning or late afternoon visits tend to be less crowded than midday.

Sea turtles visit the shallow waters near the shore regularly between July and October each year. This seasonal occurrence gives visitors a chance to watch these marine animals in their natural habitat.
