Neversink Pit, Natural limestone sinkhole in Jackson County, United States.
The vertical shaft descends 162 feet from a 40-foot-wide opening at the surface to a 100-foot-wide chamber at its base.
The Southeastern Cave Conservancy purchased and began managing the geological formation in December 1995 to ensure its protection for future generations.
Photographers and cave explorers from numerous countries travel to this location to document the rare ferns growing on the limestone walls.
Visitors need to obtain permits from the Southeastern Cave Conservancy and possess vertical caving skills to explore the formation safely.
Water cascades down the limestone walls after rainfall, creating temporary waterfalls that flow through the entire depth of the pit.
