Anse Intendance, Protected beach on Mahé island, Seychelles.
Anse Intendance is a beach on the southeastern coast of Mahé featuring roughly a mile of white sand framed by large granite boulders and thick tropical growth. The shoreline slopes fairly steeply into the water and the sand stretches between rocky outcrops.
The name comes from French colonial officials in the 18th century who took control of the southeastern region of Mahé. This period shaped the naming of many places across the island.
The shore is a place where you can watch fishermen at work during their daily routines, casting traditional nets and bringing in their catch. This connection to the sea shapes local life and remains visible in everyday activities along the water.
The beach has minimal facilities, so bring your own water, food, and sun protection. Currents in the water can be strong depending on the day, so check conditions before swimming.
From May to September, southeastern trade winds regularly generate large waves here, making this a favorite spot for surfers. During these months, the bay attracts those seeking good conditions for riding waves.
