Plage du Verdon

Plage du Verdon is a sandy beach in the sheltered cove of La Couronne, stretching several hundred meters along the Mediterranean coast. The natural surrounding topography protects swimmers from strong coastal winds and creates calm water conditions.

This beach became central to Martigues' coastal character when the La Couronne district developed as a residential waterfront area during the 20th century. The location had long served as a quieter retreat away from the town's main harbor activity.

This beach serves as a gathering place where locals spend leisure time and play traditional games like petanque throughout the warmer months. The sheltered cove creates a social space where families and neighbors naturally meet and spend time together.

The beach has onsite showers, restrooms, and restaurants, with lifeguard supervision in the swimming areas during summer months. Parking is available right by the beach for straightforward access from June through September.

This beach features specialized floating wheelchairs called Tiralo and Hippocampe that allow people with mobility challenges to access the water independently. These innovative devices show the beach's commitment to welcoming all visitors.
