Rondinara, Sand beach in Bonifacio, France
Rondinara is a crescent-shaped sand beach near Porto Vecchio, embraced by granite rocks on both sides and blessed with crystalline Mediterranean waters. The bay opens gently to the sea, creating a natural swimming area where the seafloor slopes gradually.
Ocean currents shaped the sandy bay over centuries, gradually depositing sediment between two granite headlands. The rocky points at either end represent the natural boundaries that have guided water movement along this stretch of coast.
Local Corsican farmers maintain their traditional grazing practices, allowing cattle to wander freely along the shoreline and surrounding Mediterranean vegetation.
The beach has restrooms, showers, and a waterfront restaurant for refreshments. Lifeguards patrol the swimming area during summer, and a parking area sits near the main entrance.
For many years, local herds of cattle grazed freely on the grass behind the sand, wandering down to the water's edge as part of traditional farming practices. This long-established pattern has become part of the beach's identity.
