Plage de Baluden

Plage de Baluden is a small beach on Belle-Île-en-Mer island with fine sand framed by two rocky outcrops along the southern shore. The cove stretches roughly 80 meters across at its widest point.

This beach became part of a monitoring program in 2019 designed to track coastal changes and understand erosion patterns. The initiative brings together local volunteers and scientific measurements to document how the shoreline evolves over time.

The beach serves as a gathering spot where locals notice how the tides reshape the shoreline throughout the day, creating different landscapes with each visit. The rocky headlands framing this cove give the place a sheltered, contained feeling that changes with the water level.

You reach the beach by walking along a path that runs through a flowered meadow before dropping down to the dune cove. During low tide, you can walk to the neighboring Herlin Beach and explore the connection between the two.

Special protective structures made from tamarisk bundles and a seaweed collection system help stabilize the dunes and support their natural recovery. These unconventional methods use materials washed ashore by the sea to shield the coastline.
