Praia da Granja

Praia da Granja is an Atlantic sand beach in Arcozelo with a wide strip of golden sand and natural rock formations that appear when the tide goes out. The shoreline sits between these rock features and the traditional buildings behind it.

In the late 1800s, this location shifted from a monastery farm into a favored summer destination for Portuguese aristocrats and thinkers. That transformation left the grand houses that still define the shoreline today.

The area keeps traditional Portuguese mansions from when wealthy families made it their summer destination, showing the building style typical of this northern coast.

The beach has lifeguards from June through September, wheelchair access, showers, and outdoor parking available. Equipment rentals make it easy if you do not bring your own gear.

An outdoor saltwater pool sits just beside the sand, giving swimmers an option when ocean waves are too rough or water is too cold. This pool has been a popular addition for those wanting calmer water.
