Black Beach

The beach formed from the region's volcanic past, with basalt rock gradually breaking down into black sand particles. These materials accumulated along the Lake Superior shoreline over many years.

The location is open daily and offers parking along with trails to explore the coastal area. Visitors will find facilities on-site and can also access walking paths through the surrounding woodlands.

The dark sand absorbs sunlight during the day and stays several degrees warmer than other sand beaches in the region. This trait makes the black surface pleasantly warm underfoot on sunny days.
