Honokowai Beach Park

Honokowai Beach Park is a beachfront park in Lahaina on Maui that features a shallow natural pool nestled between rocky reef formations. This protected swimming area is created by the reef structures and offers safe water conditions for families visiting the location.

This location served as a traditional Hawaiian canoe landing site in earlier centuries and was rich with freshwater springs along the water's edge. These natural resources made it an important place for the local population in ancient times.

The name Honokowai comes from the Hawaiian language and means 'bay for drawing water', reflecting how this location was once valued for its freshwater sources. Visitors today can sense this connection to the past through the place name itself.

The park provides eight picnic tables, three barbecue grills, restrooms, and outdoor showers along with a parking area of about 27 spaces. Visitors should note that the shallow waters between the reefs are most accessible during calm water conditions.

The natural swimming pool is entirely formed by reef structures that have developed over generations through wave action and coral growth. This formation creates a rare combination of safe bathing conditions and geological interest along a Hawaiian shoreline.
