Gully Beach

Gully Beach is a coastal strip in Hanover featuring dark sand and natural vegetation that extends across several hundred meters. The western dunes are covered with trees and shrubs, creating a natural buffer between the shore and inland areas.

A major earthquake in 1907 reshaped the area by redirecting a river and transforming a riverbed into a sandy shore. This natural event created the coastal landscape that exists today.

The beach serves as a gathering space where local fishing families still practice their traditional techniques and sell their daily catches to visitors and locals.

A grassy parking area accommodates vehicles near the parochial roads that lead to the beach. Access is straightforward from the main regional routes.

A natural gully flows into the sea at the eastern end, creating a distinctive break in the sandy shore. Offshore coral reefs nearby support diverse marine life and attract curious visitors to the water.
