Sunset Cove

Sunset Cove is a sand beach in Lucea with soft golden sand edged by palm trees along the Caribbean coast. The turquoise water provides good conditions for swimming and water activities of various kinds.

This beach took its current form during the 1960s when Lucea expanded its facilities and nearby resorts opened along the coast. That period connected the town to the growing tourism industry in the region.

Local fishermen work at the northern end, using traditional methods that reflect how people here have made their living from the sea. Visitors can watch them and learn about the connection between the community and fishing.

The water is calmest and clearest during morning hours for exploring beneath the surface. Visitors should plan to leave the beach area before sunset, as lighting becomes limited after dark.

Few visitors realize that a protected marine area near the shore holds around 50 kinds of tropical fish. Many of these fish are visible from the surface, making snorkeling surprisingly rewarding.
