Bodega La Geria, Wine production facility in Yaiza, Spain

Bodega La Geria is a winery in Yaiza that specializes in wine production in Lanzarote's volcanic landscape. The facility grows Malvasía grapes in individual craters dug into black volcanic soil, protected from wind by semicircular stone walls called zocas.

This wine region developed its cultivation methods over centuries to grow grapes in Lanzarote's harsh volcanic environment. The techniques of zoca construction and crater management are the result of generations of practical experience and adaptation to local conditions.

The winemaking here shows how people have adapted to the harsh volcanic landscape by using traditional techniques passed down through generations. The semicircular stone walls called zocas are a visible sign of this adaptation to the island's windy conditions.

Visiting is easiest by taking a guided tour through the vineyards and a tasting to learn about the landscape and production processes. The best way to explore is on foot along the paths between the vineyards, where you can enjoy views of the craters and stone walls.

Each individual vine grows in its own hole dug deeper into the black soil, giving the vineyard a deliberate geometric pattern. This system allows the plant to draw moisture from below ground and receive maximum sun exposure.
