La Judería, Medieval Jewish district in Córdoba, Spain
La Judería is the medieval Jewish district in Córdoba, located northeast of the Mezquita Cathedral. A network of narrow streets winds through the area, lined with whitewashed walls and traditional stone pavements that form the neighborhood's character.
From the 10th to the 15th centuries, the neighborhood was a self-governing Jewish community with its own court system and religious institutions. The Synagogue, built in 1315, represents the architectural legacy of this long-standing settlement.
The Synagogue on Calle de los Judíos displays Mudejar architecture with Hebrew inscriptions and geometric patterns that reflect the artistic traditions of its time. Today, visitors can observe how these design elements shaped the neighborhood's character and identity.
Visitors can purchase traditional crafts and local products from artisan shops along Calle Deanes and Calle Manríquez. The narrow streets are easy to explore on foot, though comfortable shoes and time to navigate the winding paths are recommended.
A bronze statue of Maimonides, a medieval physician and philosopher, stands in the neighborhood as a tribute to his influence on the city's intellectual life. This monument draws visitors interested in learning about the scholarly traditions that flourished here.
