Triunfo de San Rafael de la Puerta del Puente, Victory column near Roman Bridge in Córdoba, Spain.
The Triunfo de San Rafael is a 27-meter marble column topped with the statue of Saint Raphael, the city's guardian angel. Around its base stand figures of Cordoban saints and a white stone lion that completes the composition.
Construction started in 1765 under Bishop Martín de Barcia and was completed in 1781 by French architect Michel Verdiguier. The project reflected the city's commitment to honoring its spiritual protector with a prominent public monument.
The monument honors Saint Raphael as Córdoba's guardian angel, a role deeply rooted in local religious tradition. Latin inscriptions around the base reflect how the city connected this figure to its spiritual protection and identity.
The column stands at the intersection of Torrijos Street and Amador de los Ríos Street, very close to the Mosque-Cathedral and Roman Bridge. Its central location in the historic core makes it easy to visit on foot alongside other major landmarks.
During excavation for the foundation, workers found a burial cover from Bishop Pascual, who had founded a hospital on this site in the 13th century. This discovery connected the monument to a much older chapter of the city's religious care.
