Red Stick Farmers Market
Red Stick Farmers Market is a marketplace in Baton Rouge where local farmers and artisans sell fresh produce and handmade goods. The outdoor setting features more than 50 vendors offering vegetables, fruits, baked goods, honey, cheese, meats, and crafts in stalls arranged along Main Street.
The market was established to support local farmers and producers while creating a direct connection between growers and buyers in the community. It has become a regular Saturday gathering in downtown Baton Rouge and has expanded to operate at multiple locations around the city during peak seasons.
The name "Red Stick" comes from the French "Baton Rouge," referring to a red pole that once stood here. The market serves as a gathering place where the community connects through food, supporting local growers and makers while building relationships with farmers.
The market operates on Saturday mornings from 8 a.m. to noon at its main location at the corner of 5th and Main Streets in downtown Baton Rouge. Visitors can pay with cash or cards, and wooden tokens are available at the information booth for those without cash, never expiring for future visits.
On the first Saturday of each month, the market also hosts an Arts Market where local artists display handmade jewelry, paintings, and crafts. This transforms the shopping experience beyond groceries, adding an unexpected creative dimension to the regular Saturday gathering.

Baton Rouge preserves its history through several sites that showcase Louisiana's development. The State Capitol building, an art deco structure from 1932, towers over downtown at 140 meters high and offers a view of the Mississippi River and its surroundings from its observation deck. Nearby, the Former Governor's Residence from 1850 exemplifies Southern colonial architecture with its white columns, while the Magnolia Mound Plantation, established in 1791, reconstructs the life of French cotton planters. The city’s museums document different aspects of regional history. The LSU Rural Life Museum houses artifacts and documents on Louisiana's farming techniques from the 18th to the 20th century. The USS Kidd, a World War II destroyer moored on the Mississippi, exhibits collections on American naval history. Louisiana State University's campus features the LSU Tiger Stadium, built in 1924 and capable of holding over 100,000 spectators. The city also has natural areas such as the Bluebonnet Marsh Nature Center with its 43 hectares of marsh accessible via trails, as well as a zoo with 800 animals across 200 species.
