City Park Golf Course, Public golf course in Baton Rouge, United States
City Park Golf Course is a nine-hole facility spread across 48 acres with mature trees, water views, and a small bayou winding through the grounds. The terrain rises and falls across the property, creating varied playing conditions throughout the course.
The course was designed by architects Tom Bendelow and L.A. Grosz in 1926 and served as the only public golf facility in Baton Rouge for several decades. Its creation marked the beginning of a shift toward planned recreational infrastructure in American cities.
The course reflects how parks became gathering places where people from different backgrounds could meet and spend time outdoors. Today visitors still experience it as a space for both recreation and community connection.
The facility is open daily from sunrise to sunset and is located within the city park on Avenue grounds. The varying terrain means comfortable walking shoes are important for navigating the course comfortably.
The course features four par-3 and five par-4 holes with an elevation change of about 25 feet that dramatically affects how each shot plays. This kind of topographic variation packed into a smaller facility is uncommon for courses of this type.
