Mount Pilatus, Mountain summit in Alpnach, Switzerland.
Mount Pilatus rises to 2128.5 meters above sea level, featuring multiple peaks and steep slopes across the cantons of Obwalden, Nidwalden, and Lucerne.
The mountain's name derives from the Latin word 'pileatus', meaning cloud-topped, as clouds frequently encircle its peaks throughout the year.
Theodore Roosevelt, Arthur Schopenhauer, and Queen Victoria chose Mount Pilatus as their destination during their visits to Switzerland.
Visitors can reach the summit through the steepest cogwheel railway in the world, operating from May to November, or via aerial cableways throughout the year.
The mountain hosts fortified radar installations and weather stations on the Oberhaupt summit, which remain closed to public access.
