Curt Gowdy State Park, Nature reserve in Laramie County, Wyoming.
Curt Gowdy State Park is a nature reserve in the Laramie Mountains foothills covering around 3,400 acres of forest, meadows, and three reservoirs called Granite, Crystal, and North Crow. The landscape blends wooded areas with open water surfaces throughout the year for different activities.
Wyoming Division of State Parks established this protected area in 1971 and named it after sports commentator Curt Gowdy through an agreement with Cheyenne city. This founding marked a key step in preserving the mountain landscape for recreation and conservation.
Hynds Lodge, registered as a National Historic Place, serves as a cultural venue with an amphitheater hosting concerts and theater performances throughout the year. This building anchors community gatherings where visitors and residents alike experience music and performing arts together.
Visitors can hike on marked trails, fish at the lakes, camp at designated areas, or keep horses in corrals. The three reservoirs offer opportunities for water sports like boating and swimming depending on the season and water conditions.
The park maintains a designated archery-only zone for deer hunting during rifle season when firearms are prohibited elsewhere. This regulation supports wildlife management while creating an unusual space for traditional hunting methods.
