Hynds Lodge

Hynds Lodge is a stone building in Curt Gowdy State Park featuring communal spaces including a large kitchen, dining room, living area, and covered porch. The structure accommodates up to 30 overnight guests and provides event space for approximately 90 people during daytime use.

Harry P. Hynds, a Cheyenne businessman who began his career as a blacksmith, funded the construction of this lodge in 1922. The building's creation represented his transition to wealth and marked the establishment of a gathering place for the surrounding community.

The lodge has long served as a gathering place for community groups and organizations seeking a retreat in the natural surroundings. It remains a destination where visitors experience how rural communities celebrate and conduct their social gatherings in this mountain setting.

The lodge operates by reservation from May through October, so advance planning is necessary to secure a visit. Located within a state park, the site is accessible by road, though winter conditions may limit access during certain months.

The University of Wyoming's geology department uses the lodge as a field research base for summer courses studying the surrounding landscape and rock formations. This academic connection brings researchers and students who work in the area, adding a scholarly dimension to the site's role.
