Camping La Cascada, Riverside campground in Arbón Valley, Villayón, Spain.
Camping La Cascada is a campground with 74 grassy pitches beside the Arbón reservoir, surrounded by the green mountains of northern Asturias. The site stretches along the water and provides direct access to the forests and peaks of this mountain valley.
The campground emerged as part of transforming this area from a traditional agricultural landscape into a recreational destination along the Costa Verde coast. This shift occurred as rural mountain communities adapted to new uses in the later twentieth century.
The site near ancient brañas vaqueiras reflects the heritage of Asturian mountain shepherds who maintained seasonal settlements in these valleys. Visitors today can observe the stone structures of these traditional grazing settlements and grasp how communities adapted to mountain living.
Access to the site is controlled by a weight limit of 3,500 kg (7,700 lbs) on the entrance bridge, so check your vehicle weight beforehand. All pitches have electrical hookups with 4 amperes of power, which suits small to medium camping vehicles and tent setups.
An on-site restaurant sources ingredients from local farmers and serves traditional Asturian dishes during July and August. This seasonal approach lets visitors taste regional cooking prepared with nearby-sourced food.
