Mirador d'El Fitu, Scenic viewpoint in Ribeseya, Spain
Mirador del Fito is a viewpoint perched at 600 meters elevation with a distinctive flying saucer shape accessible via the AS-260 road connecting Arriondas and Colunga. From this platform, you can look out in all directions toward the coast, mountain ranges, and valleys of Asturias.
The viewpoint opened in 1927 when residents from across Asturias pooled resources and funds to build it as a tourism destination. This collaboration between communities shows how important this location had become to the region even then.
The distinctive cup-shaped structure earned the affectionate local nickname 'cazu,' reflecting how deeply connected residents feel to this place. Walking around it helps you understand why the building has become such a recognizable symbol for the area.
You can drive up via the AS-260 road with plenty of parking available right at the site, making it easy to access on foot. The best visits happen on clear days when you can see all the way across the landscape.
On clear days, you can spot three protected natural areas all at once from here: the Sueve Nature Reserve, Ponga Natural Park, and the peaks of Picos de Europa National Park. Having several protected landscapes visible in one direction from a single viewpoint is uncommon in Europe.
