Brooklyn Poets, Arts center in Brooklyn, US

Brooklyn Poets is an arts center and community space in Brooklyn Heights, Brooklyn, bringing together writing workshops, readings, open mic nights, and a bookstore. The space on Montague Street is simply set up, with books, chairs, and poems displayed on the walls.

Brooklyn Poets was founded to make poetry accessible in Brooklyn beyond academic circles, starting with occasional readings and salons. Over time it grew into a structured organization running hundreds of workshops and dozens of public events each year.

Brooklyn Poets is located in Brooklyn Heights, a neighborhood with cobblestone streets and old brick buildings that give the area a distinct character. Events like open mic nights and readings follow no formal protocol and feel more like gatherings among like-minded people than official literary functions.

The space on Montague Street is open on Fridays and Saturdays and can be visited without a reservation to browse books or sit and write. For workshops and special events, signing up in advance is a good idea since the groups are kept small.

During National Poetry Month in April, Brooklyn Poets publishes daily writing prompts created by members of its own community rather than outside sources. These prompts are shared online and invite anyone to write a poem every single day of the month.
