Dirk-Nowitzki-Statue, Statue in Frankfurt, Germany

The Dirk-Nowitzki-Statue is a bronze sculpture on Theodor-Heuss-Allee in Frankfurt, placed in front of the main entrance of the ING Germany building. It shows the basketball player seated on a wooden bench, arms crossed and elbows resting on his thighs, wearing sports clothes without any team markings.

The statue was commissioned by ING Germany and unveiled in Frankfurt on October 12, 2023. At the ceremony, ING's head Nick Jue handed Nowitzki a check for his foundation, which supports children from lower-income families.

Many visitors sit down next to the figure to take a photo, as Nowitzki's open posture clearly invites it. A small bronze basketball rests between his legs, making his connection to the sport immediately visible.

The statue stands directly in front of the ING Germany headquarters on Theodor-Heuss-Allee, across from the Festhalle, and is freely accessible at any time. An information sign next to the sculpture gives more details about the athlete.

The sculpture was made about 10 percent larger than Nowitzki's real size so that it stands out better from a distance. Despite this, the relaxed seated pose makes it easy to walk past without noticing it right away.
