Sinop Historic Prison, Prison museum in Sinop, Turkey

The Sinop Historic Prison is a former prison in the city of Sinop, on Turkey's Black Sea coast, now open as a museum. The building is part of an old fortress complex and features thick stone walls, heavy doors, narrow corridors, and small cells.

The prison was originally part of a military fortress built in a strategic position along the Black Sea coast. During the late Ottoman period, it was used to hold political prisoners who opposed the authorities.

The prison has a strong connection to Turkish literary life, as writers and intellectuals were held here, including the novelist Sabahattin Ali. Their stories are now displayed through texts and artifacts that give a human face to the history of the site.

The museum is in central Sinop and can be reached on foot from most parts of the city center. Some sections of the building have uneven floors or narrow stairs, which may be difficult for visitors with limited mobility.

One of the most talked-about rooms in the museum is called the Perception of Time, designed to show how confinement changed a prisoner's sense of time. The room uses darkness and humidity to give visitors a physical sense of what a long stay inside felt like.
