Burj Khalifa Lake, Man-made lake in Downtown Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Burj Khalifa Lake is a manufactured body of water that sits right in front of the tall tower and the adjacent shopping mall in Downtown Dubai. A wide boardwalk traces the water’s edge, and from most angles the view takes in the tower’s reflection on the surface.
The lake was created as part of the larger Downtown Dubai project developed by Emaar, and it became the stage for the fountain system that for years was ranked as the largest of its kind. Over time, the surrounding boardwalk and dining areas turned the lake into a central meeting point for visitors to the district.
Visitors gather along the boardwalk each evening to watch jets of water move with Arabic and international music, while wooden abra boats carry small groups across the lake for a closer view. The walkway itself is shared by families, couples and photographers waiting for the tower’s lights to appear after sunset.
The area stays open all day and can be reached by metro through an air-conditioned walkway from the nearby station. Arriving about forty minutes before a fountain show helps secure a good spot along the boardwalk, especially on weekends.
The lake’s surface is used daily as a stage by hundreds of water nozzles and thousands of lights, yet the basic walk around the edge remains free of charge. The wooden abra boats, a direct nod to older transport on the creek, let visitors watch the water show from inside the lake while the music plays.
