SEGA Republic
SEGA Republic was a two-floor indoor amusement park inside Dubai Mall, built around rides and games themed on SEGA video game characters and franchises. The park was divided into five zones, each offering a different type of entertainment, from roller coasters and virtual rides to sports simulations and arcade-style games.
SEGA Republic opened in 2009, shortly after Dubai Mall itself launched, as part of a broader push to make the mall a destination for indoor leisure. It closed on June 1, 2017, when Dubai Mall chose to replace it with new attractions, ending nearly a decade of operation.
SEGA Republic has been closed since 2017 and can no longer be visited inside Dubai Mall. Visitors looking for similar indoor entertainment can find other options within the mall itself, which continues to offer a range of leisure activities.
One of the most talked-about rides was Halfpipe Canyon, a snowboarding simulation set on a ramp over 23 feet (7 meters) high, placed inside an air-conditioned mall in the desert. The contrast between a winter sports theme and the desert climate just outside was something many visitors noticed and remembered.
