KAFD Wadi, Pedestrian corridor in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
KAFD Wadi is a pedestrian corridor in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. It runs below street level through the King Abdullah Financial District, with a paved walkway lined with plants and places to sit.
The Wadi was built as part of the King Abdullah Financial District, a large development that began in the early 2000s. It opened to the public in the late 2010s as the district gradually welcomed businesses and visitors.
The name Al Wadi means the valley in Arabic, and the corridor is used by office workers who come here for lunch or a walk during breaks. In the evenings, families and groups of friends sometimes gather in the seating areas, especially when the weather is cooler.
You can enter the Wadi from several points around the financial district, but the entrances are not clearly marked, so it helps to look for the downward ramps or stairs. Once inside, the path is easy to follow and connects to a network of covered walkways that lead to nearby buildings and the metro.
The corridor stays several degrees cooler than the surrounding streets because it sits below ground and uses natural shade and airflow. It also links to a long network of covered walkways, which is among the longest of its kind in the world.
