Teplice, Spa city in northwestern Czech Republic
Teplice is a spa town in northwestern Czechia located at the foot of the Ore Mountains with several natural hot springs. These springs with temperatures ranging from 28 to 46 degrees Celsius (82 to 115 degrees Fahrenheit) are spread throughout the city and central to life here.
The town started around 1156 when Queen Judith of Bohemia founded a convent near the hot springs. Two ancient towers from that time still stand today and show the early history of the settlement.
The town's name comes from the hot springs that have shaped life here for centuries. People use the parks and public spaces as meeting points where visitors and locals move about in a relaxed way.
The town welcomes visitors year-round since the springs flow constantly warm and bathing facilities stay open all year. You should bring good walking shoes to comfortably explore the hilly streets around the old town.
Fossils of an elasmosaur, a large marine reptile from prehistoric times, were discovered in the Hudcov area. This is a rare find for the region and shows the ancient geological story of the place.
