The red brick church features three naves and two towers, with the southern tower reaching a height of 102 meters above ground level.
The construction started during King Ottokar I reign between 1198 and 1230, with the Teutonic Knights playing a key role in its establishment.
The structure received national cultural monument status in 1995 and serves as the second seat of the bishop of Ostrava-Opava since 1996.
The co-cathedral maintains regular Catholic services and stands at Rybí trh street, in the center of the historical district of Opava.
The southern tower stands as the tallest church tower in the Silesia region, exceeding the height of Prague Castle's tower by several meters.
