Obchodní dům Breda is a five-story department store featuring large display windows and decorative details on its main facade in downtown Opava. The structure displays a clear architectural organization with regularly spaced windows and ornamental elements that reflect the commercial building design of its construction period.

The store was built between 1927 and 1928 by the Breda & Weinstein company and remained the region's largest commercial building until the 1960s. A fire in 2004 led to its closure in 2012, after which the city began planning its restoration.

The building reflects architect Leopold Bauer's vision, blending modern design with early 20th-century commercial use in a way that shaped how people shopped and gathered in the city center. Its large display windows show how retail buildings once served as focal points for community activity and social exchange.

The building is located in central Opava and is easily accessible on foot, though it is currently undergoing renovation work. You can appreciate the exterior architecture and decoration while interior restoration continues.

The facade has been illuminated during the Christmas season since 2021, reviving a tradition that had been interrupted for 17 years. This renewed practice shows how much the local community values this landmark's connection to their shared memory.
