Ondrášovy díry, Natural monument in Malenovice, Czech Republic
Ondrášovy díry is a natural monument featuring surface formations and underground cave systems on the Lukšinec ridge near Lysá hora mountain. The site spans multiple hectares and displays various openings and passages formed through natural geological processes.
The site received official protection status in 1990 after geologists had studied the formations since the 1950s. This scientific recognition led to its formal designation as an important geological feature.
Local stories connect these caves to a bandit named Ondráš, who supposedly used underground passages to travel between distant locations. People in the region still speak of secret routes that once linked important historical sites.
The entrance lies south of the yellow hiking route toward Lysá hora, which starts from the parking area near Rajská bouda hotel. Visitors should wear sturdy footwear and move carefully, as the areas around the caves can be uneven and slippery.
The cave system serves as a winter refuge for multiple bat species, including endangered varieties that depend on stable underground conditions. This role as a bat sanctuary makes it an important location for protecting these vulnerable creatures.
