Madonna with Saint Dominic and Thomas Aquinas

This sculpture depicts Mary standing between two saints, all three carved from sandstone. The work sits on Charles Bridge as part of a series of religious sculptures that line the span.

An artist created this statue in the early 1700s, when the bridge was gradually being fitted with new religious works. The artistic enrichment of the bridge took place over many decades.

The sculpture shows devotion to Mary that remains visible to visitors walking across the bridge today. It stands among many other religious works that together reflect the Catholic faith woven into Prague's public spaces.

The work sits along the main footpath and is easy to reach when crossing the bridge. The location is open to visitors and requires no special arrangements to view it.

The original sandstone figure was moved to a museum for protection, while a copy now stands in its place on the bridge. This approach preserves the historic original from weathering and damage.
