Dantzler Plantation
Dantzler Plantation, Antebellum plantation house in Holly Hill, South Carolina, US.
Dantzler Plantation is a two-story Greek Revival house in Holly Hill with a front porch supported by columns and an attached kitchen structure behind it. The property covers around 24.5 acres and features brick chimneys built from materials produced on the grounds.
The house was built between 1846 and 1850 and survived the Civil War when many similar properties in the area were destroyed. Its existence makes it one of the few remaining examples from that era in Orangeburg County.
The house reflects how residents adapted their living spaces over time through changes made during the 1800s and 1900s. These visible modifications show the practical needs and habits of the families who lived here across different periods.
The property is located on Vance Road near Holly Hill and is privately owned but can be viewed from outside. Visitors should look for the oak-lined entrance drive and the gate with its distinctive brick archway, which mark the boundaries of the grounds.
The original property features a row of oak trees leading to the house and a distinctive entrance gate made of brick with tall posts on each side. These carefully preserved landscape elements are as much a part of the place as the building itself.
