Crosby's Opera House, Opera house in Chicago, United States.
The five-story Italianate structure on Washington Street featured retail stores, offices, and a three-thousand-seat theater with a decorated dome.
Designed by architect W.W. Boyington, the opera house operated from 1865 until its destruction during the Great Chicago Fire of 1871.
The building displayed allegorical statues of Painting, Sculpture, Music, and Commerce on its facade, with composer portraits adorning the interior dome.
The first floor contained music publishers Root & Cady, piano seller W.W. Kimball, and various retail establishments serving theater patrons.
After financial difficulties in 1866, owner Uranus Crosby organized a lottery selling 210,000 tickets to raffle off the entire building.
